In May 2025, Microsoft will finally close Skype and offer users to switch to Teams for communication and calls. This became known from a message in the code of the latest preview version of the Windows application.
Skype was launched in 2003 and became one of the most popular services for video calls and messaging. In 2011, Microsoft acquired the service and began to gradually integrate it into various versions of Windows. However, with the advent of Teams in 2017, the company began to shift focus and develop its platform for corporate communication.
Despite attempts to improve Skype and integrate it into the system, the service could not compete with products such as Apple’s FaceTime or Google’s services. In recent years, Microsoft has been actively promoting Teams, offering users a free version of this application for personal needs.
Now Skype is finally becoming a thing of the past, and the company is focusing on Teams, which will become the main tool for calls and chats.
